Morning Headlamp — PFD amount to be announced Friday

TGIF. Gov. Bill Walker is in Asia this week, but his spokeswoman says the amount of this year’s Alaska Permanent Fund dividend will be revealed Friday morning on the governor’s website. The first checks should be deposited Oct. 6. It’s widely known that the check will be close to $1,000.

According to the Alaska Dispatch News, North Slope newcomer Hilcorp Alaska is planning to buck the trend of decline in the state’s big oil patch and undertake a new development known as Moose Pad, with space for up to 44 wells designed to reach about 7 square miles of undeveloped oil reserves in the Milne Point unit. An estimated 236,550 cubic yards of gravel would fill wetlands at the site, with much of that to build the 17-acre pad to support drilling operations, according to an application for a wetlands fill permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Hilcorp estimates Liberty could add up to 70,000 barrels of oil daily to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, boosting the pipeline’s roughly 500,000 barrels per day throughput. Headlamp applauds the development considering the low-price environment and wishes Hilcorp the best of luck.

Corri Feige, director of the Alaska Division of Oil and Gas, informed colleagues yesterday that she will take advantage of an “opportunity” and will step down from her role. Feige did not describe the “new adventure” in the email, provided by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources commissioner’s office. But Feige said it will allow her to spend more time with her daughter, who is in her last year at home before college begins.
