Morning Headlamp — Governor Walker calls for Alaska to seize its own destiny, regardless of price

More revisions, less patience. BP, ConocoPhillips and Exxon Mobil submitted a revised development plan to the state concerning the year’s outlook for Prudhoe bay. This marks the latest step in the long dispute which will likely impact Alaska’s natural gas market. The battle comes with Gov. Bill Walker pushing aggressively to advance a state gas line project that would produce and sell the gas to markets in Asia. On Friday, BP would not provide the updated development plan to Alaska Dispatch News. BP lawyers have said the plan and a cover letter outlining the revisions must come from the state, Patience said.  Headlamp is anxious to see how the state responds – will Alaska litigate or negotiate towards an LNG project?

For those interested in learning more about Prudhoe Bay and its future, Headlamp encourages members of the public to attend the Alliance’s breakfast this Thursday at 7:00am, at the Dena’ina Center, with guests Senator Cathy Giessel and Commissioner Cathy Foerster with the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Governor Bill Walker penned a commentary for the Juneau Empire where he discussed the future of the AKLNG megaproject. According to Walker, “Under a state-led project, the producers may still play a role in designing, building and operating a project. A state-led project would closely resemble a producer-led project. The state would hire the same companies the producers would for an energy project of this scale…It is time once again for Alaska to act as the sovereign we are. As other sovereigns around the world control their own economic destinies by taking their gas resources to the world markets, we must not put Alaska’s future on pause to allow competing LNG projects to move their gas to Asian markets. ”
